Indian Contemporary w/ Renuka//Garage Arts Project

In this 2-hr session, you will learn:

• Basic Postures and Exercises to Prepare the Body

• Introduction to Mudras (Basic Hand gestures) used in traditional Bharatanatyam.

• With the above two introductions, we will explore movements and learn a choreography that infuses elements of contemporary that are novel, yet Indian in spirit.Sliding Scale $5-$20

Bio:

Renuka Rajagopalan is a Bharatanatyam and Indian Contemporary dancer, Artist Facilitator, curator and Founder of Garage Arts Project. Her dance is an organic amalgamation of these styles, using traditional templates to tell personal and reflective work. As a dancer, she aspires to create work that is honest, relevant and in step with the current times. She looks at tradition with a modern mind, to explore the past to create a new, imaginative future.She is passionate about creating awareness of global art forms and connect arts to an appreciative multi-cultural audience. She works tirelessly to provide an immersive platform for artists and audience to promote community development through arts.

About Summer Series:

Summer Series is a series of weekly outdoor dance offerings at Sweet Pass Sculpture Park. Each week, a new local movement artist will share a practice of their choosing. Together we'll find space to play, heal, express, sweat, and restore. Classes are offered on a sliding scale, $5-$20. Be advised that we will be moving outside, sometimes in direct sunlight! We recommend wearing shoes you can move in and bringing sunscreen and bug spray.
