Collective Reflection Movement Workshop
Monthly | 1:30-3:00pm | Arts Mission Oak Cliff
Collective Reflection workshops offer an improvisation-based dance ‘class’ to help you find empowerment and new perspectives through movement. Each session starts with a guided warm-up - incorporating elements of meditation, Gyrokinesis, Feldenkrais (Awareness Through Movement), and modern/contemporary dance. After bringing awareness to our mental focus and physical alignment, participants receive prompts to explore various elements of movement (time, weight, momentum, direction, and more) individually, and as a group. Each session concludes with a wind-down meditation and time for journaling or reflective conversation.
This space is sometimes silly, sometimes serious, and always trying something new. Workshops are open to all experience levels- whether you have never taken a dance class or are a full-time performing artist, you are welcome here! Please reach out to rai.marise@gmail.com with any questions or accommodation requests.

Agora Artists: Caroline Catingub Pop-Up Class
July 22nd | 7:00pm-8:30pm | Arts Mission Oak Cliff
This month, Agora Artists is proud to bring local dancers a pop-up class at AMOC with Caroline Catingub!
Experience Level: 🔥 (trying something new--all levels!)
Pop Up Spine School is a class designed to bring whole body awareness to physical movement through principles that enhance fluidity and strength. We were created to create and experience natural movement in our bodies! In this class we will tap into universal movement patterns found in nature to enhance the ease and effortlessness of how we move in space. Through spinal curves, arches, spirals and rippling patterns we will explore how the body connects to inner and outside energy and allow this to increase our own self expression. The exercises are low impact and performed with purpose to incorporate breath technique and optimal nervous system function. No dance experience required but an appreciation of dance is desired.
About Caroline
Caroline Catingub began her dance training in Walnut Creek, CA at The Ballet School and later Contra Costa Ballet. She graduated with a BFA from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. Upon returning to the San Francisco Bay Area she enjoyed a long lived career as a free lance dancer collaborating with numerous choreographers and dance companies including Push Dance Company, Coterie Dance, On3 Dance and AVID Dance Project. She continued her dance education at LINES Ballet, ODC, Berkeley City Ballet, Diablo Ballet and Shawl Anderson Modern Dance Center. Growing as a movement artist her career path led her into fitness and the pursuit of various certifications. She has trained extensively in numerous modalities of somatic and therapeutic forms of movement rehabilitation and enjoys the constant furthering of knowledge in the field of physical healing. Her movement mentors (amongst many) include Rebekah Schultz (Pilates), Anne-Rene Petrarca (Modern, Alexander Technique), Maurya Kerr (Gyrokinesis), Naffie Fischbacher (Feldenkrais) and Mocha Mystique (Rossiter Stretching). She most recently performed at Arts Mission Oak Cliff in Jen Mabus’s “Bare Feet and Burning Bushes” in 2023 and Larissa Fong’s “Beyond the White Picket Fence” in 2022.

Choreo Lab
July 19th | 1:00pm-4:00pm | Arts Mission Oak Cliff
Choreo Lab is an experiment in short-term, low-stakes creative processes that mutually benefit dancers and dancemakers. Led by a new choreographer each month, we’ll create instant ensembles, giving the choreographer an opportunity to test out creative ideas on bodies other than their own and dancers the opportunity to meet collaborators, learn new movement styles, and be in a process-oriented environment. Dancemakers might ask participants to create their own material, play with spacing/facing, and engage with other compositional elements.
Each session will start with a 15-30 min warm up depending on the needs of the process. Before each session participants will receive more details about what to expect including notes on apparel and other elements that might be involved like writing, speaking, and/or physical contact. Since every person will bring and receive extraordinary value to the space, we will ask for a donation from everyone participating each month–both dancers and choreographers.
A sliding scale of $10-30/person for each month will help cover the cost of studio space and admin while cultivating mutual respect and commitment between the performers and choreographer.
Choreographers for May, June, and July are already confirmed, and we hope to continue labs long-term in the future with rolling submissions from choreographers.
Choreo Lab was conceived by Lauren Kravitz with considerable support from Rai Barnard. Together, we'll facilitate and develop this series.
Schedule:
All sessions are held at Arts Mission Oak Cliff (410 S Windomere Ave Dallas, TX 75208)
May 17 & 31 11 AM - 2 PM w/ Rai Barnard
Experimenting with contemporary partnering and phrase work inspired by childhood playfulness and pillow forts. Expect to mess around with props and floorwork while exploring forces of resistance/support between bodies. Mix of learning set material and creating through collaborative improvisation.
June 7 & 21 11 AM - 2 PM w/ Lauren Kravitz
Playing around with modern and jazz material inspired by Judy Sheppard Missett’s Jazzercise franchise along with other aerobics influences and reflections on growing up as a competitive dancer. You can expect repetitive, athletic movement, lots of play with time and patterns–we’re gonna sweat! Hoping to have a large group.
July 5 & 19 1 PM - 4 PM w/ TBD
More info coming soon!
Registration: $10-30, sliding scale for all participants, including choreographers. Registration for a lab includes two 3-hr sessions within one calendar month, and participants are expected to attend both.

Anna Bauer AMOC Residency Informal Showing
July 6th | 2-3pm | Arts Mission Oak Cliff
Anna Bauer and collaborators (Jairus Carr and Celeste Camfield) are town for a residency at AMOC! Join them for an informal showing at the end of their residency!
About Anna Bauer's Residency
To me, dance-making is like solving a puzzle. I gather individual elements- the dancers, the movement, the sound, the concept- and find the ways they connect and make sense to me. I figure out how those pieces form a bigger picture. As I’ve grown as an artist and grown older as a person, this act of connecting seeming randomness and making it into something personally meaningful has started to feel more and more reflective of living in general. I consider dance as my way of finding/making meaning in my life. It makes me feel significant, this puzzle-solving. It gives me an identity. It puts me in community with the people around me, through classes and performances and rehearsal processes. I too am a puzzle piece, finding my place in this big universal picture.
My choreographic works are collages, connecting and weaving together things that I find interesting during the time of their creation, as well as ideas that arise between myself and my dancers during the process itself. I toe the line of specificity and abstraction. I want to make work that has recognizable mundane elements and is clearly about something, but I encourage an audience to form their own interpretations and have the final say on what that something is. For this reason, I draw inspiration heavily from everyday life- coffee, laundry, dinner, pants, and so on. My movement generation often stems from pedestrian gesture: sudden claps of the hands, subtle nods of the head, reluctant shrugs of the shoulders. My dancers move to the sound of dripping coffee, put clothing on hangers, and form human tables with their bodies. Often, deeper connections arise behind seemingly commonplace things that reflect my personal experiences and the experiences of my dancers: Breakfast food transforms into a study of intimacy between strangers. The dinner table becomes a manifestation of internal conflict. Laundry investigates themes of perception. Art imitates life, life imitates art, and round and round we go.
Jairus Carr and Celeste Camfield are two fantastic fellow Austin artists- we've worked together closely over the past few years, and we want to continue collaborating. This residency, so graciously hosted by Agora Artists, is the beginning of something new for us. We are excited to use this time to investigate movement improvisationally and choreographically and share a little bit of our creative process and a little bit of Austin with the Dallas dance community!
About the Artists
Anna is a person living in Austin, Texas, and wearing the hats of choreographer and dancer. She holds a BFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University and currently dances for the KDH Dance Company and Allysen Hooks Projects while maintaining a personal focus on choreography. She often collaborates with fellow artist Jairus Carr. Right now, her work investigates things like details, clothing, and puzzles. Events across Texas have been kind enough to include her pieces in their lineup: ARCOS Presents Short Form, Austin Dance Festival, BLiPSWiTCH’s Offbeat X, Barnstorm Dance Fest, Texas Dance Improvisation Festival, and local concerts produced by Austin artists such as ZATERO Dance, Emily Rushing, Carissa Topham Fisher, and Jahna Bobolia. She has also brought her work to national festivals, most recently White Wave Soloduo Dance Festival and RAD Fest Midwest Dance Festival. She has attended residencies with Keshet Makers Space Experience, WhirlWind Dance Company, Homeport Art House, and Bellingham Repertory Dance. Anna also does other non-dance-related things, but you can ask her about those in person.

Choreo Lab
July 5th | 1:00pm-4:00pm | Arts Mission Oak Cliff

Agora Artists: Anna Bauer Pop-Up Class
July 2nd | 10:30am-12pm | Arts Mission Oak Cliff
This month, Agora Artists is proud to bring local dancers a pop-up class at AMOC with Anna Bauer!
My class is a series of anatomical puzzles in the form of choreographed and improvisational exercises. These exercises challenge us to access our authentic weight, momentum, and specific initiation points within our anatomy in order to achieve the intended movement pathways. We put all of these pieces together in a final (fun!) phrase. Through this idea of anatomical puzzles, I hope to give people a chance to access both their physicality and their ability to remain mentally present. Together, we use our problem-solving brains to feel and focus on the current movement and the current moment.
